Specific IgM antibodies against antigens of Borrelia burgdorferi s.l. are detected in the serum, plasma or CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) using a serological method (ELISA). IgM antibodies appear in the first phase of the disease (after 3 – 4 weeks after infection). Detection of these antibodies is helpful in the diagnosis of the disease in an early phase.
