Anaplasma phagocytophilum is a gram - negative bacteria transmitted by ticks. This pathogen causes the zoonotic disease, called human granulocytic anaplasmosis with flu-like symptoms, fever and headache. Other symptoms include, absence of a skin rash, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia.

It is the most commonly tick-transmitted pathogen.

Missed detection of A. phagocytophilum may result in problems with the diagnosis and treatment of borreliosis.

The DNA of the gram-negative bacteria, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, is detected in the sample using molecular methods.
