Babesia infection in immunocompetent human may be asymptomatic or exhibit non-specific symptoms or flu-like symptoms. In patients with immumodeficiencies it may lead to severe anemia.
The DNA of Babesia sp., is detected in the sample using molecular methods. Additionally, in this test it is possible to distinguish three species, common in Europe, Babesia microti, Babesia divergens, Babesia venatorum.
Material: whole blood collected with anticoagulant (for exapmle EDTA)
