The DNA of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato is detected in the sample using molecular methods. In this test it is possible to distinguish three species within the Borrelia burgdorferii sensu lato complex (Borrelia afzeli, B. garini, B. burgdorferi sensu stricto). These bacterial pathogens may cause different clinical signs of borreliosis (artritis, dermatitis, neuroborreliosis).
Using molecular methods it is possible to detect the bacterial infection in the early phase of the disease. Positive results obtained in this test help to infer a proper treatment.
